Release Date: 15 March, 2024
NOW Music is proud to present 58 more essential singles from the incredible year in Pop that was 1990, NOW – Yearbook Extra 1990.
Opening with a defining anthem ‘Freedom! ‘90’ from George Michael, Disc One features a blend of Pop gems and soulful ballads. The B-52’s ‘Roam’, Duran Duran’s ‘Serious’, Belinda Carlisle with ‘Runaway Horses’ along with hits from Jane Child, Deacon Blue, Tears For Fears, and Robert Palmer feat. UB40 on their cover of ‘I’ll Be Your Baby Tonight’ are included in the Pop gems category – whilst the pace slows for great vocal performances including for Roxette, Eurythmics, Oleta Adams, Tina Turner, Gloria Estefan, Paul Young and Elton John… and the first disc closes with the instrumental smash ‘Lily Was Here’ from David A. Stewart and Candy Dulfer.
Disc 2 kicks off with great lyrical Pop of the era from Aztec Camera and the remix version of The Cure’s ‘Close To Me’ making the song a hit again five years after its first chart run. Alternative club tracks that crossed over to become hits from The Farm, The Soup Dragons, The Beloved and Primal Scream are joined by soul influenced beats from Innocence, Soul II Soul with stellar vocalist Kym Mazelle and The Chimes with their hit reading of a U2 classic… and SNAP! had a huge year and ‘Ooops Up’, included here was a pan-European smash. Pop & Hip-Hop/Rap crossover sees LL Cool J, M.C. Hammer and MC Tunes & 808 State included before switching gears to some of year’s Rock tracks from Poison, Billy Idol, Cher and the Pretenders.
Kicking off the final disc, a #1 from Kylie and Pop gold from Jason Donovan, Craig McLachlan, Bros and New Kids On The Block before dancefloor-fillers from Paula Abdul, Technotronic, and Big Fun. Legendary vocalists also feature including Liza Minnelli, Dusty Springfield and Deborah Harry… along with fantastic Soul-Pop ballads from Lonnie Gordon and Sybil… The energetic pure Pop of Betty Boo, and Sinitta lead into a #1 for children’s TV presenter Timmy Mallett with Bombalurina with their cover of the ‘60s smash ‘Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny Yellow Polka Dot Bikini’ – and another ‘60s cover; ‘End Of The World’ from Sonia gives way to a ‘60s original from The Righteous Brothers who enjoyed a Top 3 hit with ‘You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feelin’’ 26 years after it went to #1 originally… and the last word goes to 1990’s Christmas chart-topper – ‘Saviour’s Day’ from Cliff Richard.
A mix of hits and lesser compiled singles – an essential addition to any Pop collection.
