Low Down, Wound Up, Rockin' Texas Blues: Vinyl LP
$41.99
Release date: 26 June, 2026
A carefully curated compilation charting the blues rock journey Texas guitar maestro Van Wilks has made over the past 30 years.
Born in Galveston, and raised around Buddy Holly’s hometown of Lubbock, Van Wilks came of age during a time when guitar music ruled the airwaves.
But what was unique about Van and his fellow Texan blues obsessives was the fertile musical soil that gave birth to them. By the 1940s electric blues guitar was making itself heard and felt, with Dallas bluesman T-Bone Walker helping define the genre that came of age in the Sixties.
All of this and more can be heard in Van Wilk’s playing, a sophisticated synthesis of swampy blues tones, rhythmic inventiveness, bluestastic riffing and more, going all the way up the scale to flat out gnarly blues rock.
“I call attention to a dear friend of mine and great, great guitar player from Austin, Mr Van Wilks.
Early on, I discovered my fascination with his particular playing style. As we became pals, we started finding even more guitar-related common ground.”
